While injections of Dysport can be effective in filling in wrinkles or adding volume to the facial skin, their most predominant use is to fill in the glabellar lines, which are the vertical lines that develop between the eyebrows. These lines are very common creasing that develops with age as the muscles surrounding the creasing are frequently used on a daily basis as part of frequently used facial expressions by many people. The glabellar lines can prove to be some of the trickier wrinkles to fill in due to them being located in such a high-movement area of the face, causing them to be quite a bit deeper or more significant than most other facial creasing. These creases are also frequently referred to as “frown lines” as they often appear on the face when the eyebrows are moved together, which is a common facial movement seen while frowning. Over time, these lines will be present all of the time regardless of the genuine facial expression of the person, often leading people to appear upset or sad even when they are not.
It is common to experience minor bruising or swelling after receiving Dysport injections but this can easily be treated and reduced through the application of a cold compress or ice pack to the area that was treated. It is very important to avoid any strenuous activities for at least 4 hours following the appointment, including working out, using a sauna, or receiving a different facial treatment in that time to help reduce the risk of developing any swelling or bruising in the area.
Clients should also avoid rubbing, massaging, or even touching the areas into which the filler was injected so ensure that none of the filler that has been carefully injected into the right places moves around. Putting any pressure on your face should be avoided as much as possible, so patients will need to be careful to lay on their backs while sleeping following their appointment for the first bit, and it is recommended that patients just wait a couple of days before applying makeup to the area to again prevent any unnecessary pressure.
Most Dysport specialists will recommend that their patients try to stay more or less upright for at least 4 to 6 hours following their appointment to ensure that the body is able to properly receive the newly injected substance and that it remains exactly where it was placed in the skin. Staying upright just means not laying down to prevent the risk of applying any pressure to the face, so patients are allowed to sit down and lounge a bit if they wish, but they should be mindful of ensuring their face is not resting against anything and stays upright for the recommended amount of time.
To ensure that you are able to get the most out of your Dysport treatment and that the results are as effective and beautiful as possible, it is very important that you follow all instructions provided by the injection specialist both for before and aftercare. Leading up to the appointment, you will likely be recommended to note any medications or vitamins you may be taking that act as blood thinners (this is something that should always be disclosed to your injection provider well before the treatment starts).
Within a couple of days of the appointment, there will likely be other parts of your skincare routine that you will have to omit such as retinoids or other “anti-aging” products, as well as avoiding any waxing, bleaching, or other hair removal products will have to not be used until the skin has healed following injections. Avoid the consumption of alcohol or tobacco at least 24 hours before the appointment as well.
Aftercare instructions will be provided by your specialist but will include tips such as avoiding strenuous activity, not touching the area that was treated, use the facial muscles by smiling, frowning, clenching your jaw, or moving your eyebrows to help the Dysport work into the muscles and make sure that the facial skin is always properly protected from sun damage through high-quality SPF products and avoiding direct sun exposure wherever possible.
