Ptosis is a medical condition in which the upper eyelid droops and becomes lax. This can cause the eye to become partially or completely concealed, which can negatively affect the ability to see. Ptosis is usually the result of a weakening of the muscles that support the eye, which may be caused by a disease or injury. In some cases, ptosis may be hereditary. In the past, there were few treatments for ptosis, but with recent advancements, treatments like Upneeq are now available.

What is Upneeq?

Upneeq (oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution), 0.1% is a prescription eye drop used to treat acquired blepharoptosis (low-lying lids) in adults. How Do I Get Upneeq?

Fortunately, Upneeq can be prescribed at En Vogue Medi-Spa in Southampton, PA. Upneeq is available for purchase directly from En Vogue Medi-Spa.

If you would like to schedule a complimentary consultation, or if you have any questions you can contact En Vogue Medi-Spa directly at (215) 355-5777, or request an appointment online here.

How Do I Apply Upneeq?

Upneeq is applied directly to the affected eye(s) in 2 easy steps. It is important to note that contacts should be removed before applying Upneeq eyedrops; they can be put back in 15 minutes after applying Upneeq. Furthermore, if more than one topical ophthalmic drug (such as a medicated eye drop) is being used, the drugs should be administered at least 15 minutes between applications. The tip of the Upneeq vial should not touch the eye or any other surface. Avoiding this can help prevent eye injury or contamination. Each Upneeq vial is designed for a one-time use only and should be discarded after being used.

What warnings and precautions are associated with Upneeq?

Certain conditions related to low-lying lids should be discussed with a doctor before using Upneeq; these include:

•  Stroke
•  Brain aneurysm
•  Horner syndrome
•  Myasthenia gravis
•  Loss of ability to move eye muscles
•  Eye infection
•  Eye tumors

Upneeq may affect blood pressure. People with a history of heart disease, uncontrolled high or low blood pressure, or vertigo should consult their doctor if any symptoms get worse.

Patients who experience eye or mouth dryness due to an immune system disorder (Sjögren’s syndrome), or patients with reduced blood flow to the brain or heart should use care when taking UPNEEQ and call their doctor immediately if symptoms may be getting worse.

In patients with untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, Upneeq may increase the risk of eye pressure due to fluid buildup (angle-closure glaucoma); call the doctor immediately if there is increased pressure in the eye after using Upneeq.

Patients who are taking an alpha-adrenergic agonist medication to treat heart disease or an enlarged prostate should use caution when taking Upneeq; this also applies to patients taking medications (such as beta-blockers) for the treatment of hypertension or abnormal heartbeat. Furthermore, patients who are currently taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (a certain class of antidepressant medication) should also be cautious when using Upneeq and be vigilant of any changes in its efficacy; this is because Upneeq may affect the way the body absorbs the medication.
